Solar Incentives
in New Jersey.
Fifteen years of guaranteed SREC-II income, zero sales tax, zero property tax on added value, and full retail net metering. New Jersey runs some of the strongest solar incentives in the country — Zenergy makes sure you capture all of them.

How New Jerseyans Save With Solar
Four programs stack together — guaranteed production income, two tax exemptions, and full-value bill credits.
15 Years of Guaranteed Income
SuSI Program (SREC-II)
New Jersey’s Successor Solar Incentive pays a fixed amount for every megawatt-hour your system produces — guaranteed for 15 years. Unlike market-traded SRECs, the rate is locked when you register, so the income is predictable from day one.
Save 6.625% Instantly
Sales Tax Exemption
New Jersey fully exempts solar equipment from the state’s 6.625% sales tax. On a typical home system, that is over a thousand dollars that never gets added to your cost.
Add Value, Not Taxes
Property Tax Exemption
Solar raises your home’s resale value — and New Jersey exempts 100% of that added value from property tax assessment. Your home is worth more; your tax bill doesn’t move.
PSE&G & Atlantic City Electric
Net Metering
New Jersey runs one of the strongest net metering policies in the country. PSE&G and Atlantic City Electric credit your surplus at the full retail rate, with credits rolling forward and settling annually.
What Happened to the 30% Federal Tax Credit?
The federal rules changed at the end of 2025. Here's the honest picture — and how homeowners still capture federal value in 2026.
Ended Dec 31, 2025
The 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) for homeowner-purchased solar — and the Section 25C credit for heat pumps and insulation — ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Systems installed in 2025 can still be claimed on your 2025 tax return.
Still Available in 2026
Third-party-owned systems — solar leases and power purchase agreements (PPAs) — remain eligible for the federal Section 48E credit through 2027. The system owner claims the credit and passes the value through as a lower monthly rate. State incentives, SRECs, utility rebates, and net metering are unaffected.
Compare Ownership vs. Lease*Tax law changes and individual eligibility vary. Confirm your situation with a certified public accountant (CPA) before relying on any tax benefit.
New Jersey Incentive FAQs
How much does the SuSI program actually pay?
Registered residential net-metered systems earn a fixed payment per SREC-II certificate — one certificate per megawatt-hour — locked in for 15 years at the rate in effect when you register. A typical home system produces 8–12 certificates a year. We include the exact projection for your roof in every proposal.
Is SuSI the same as the old NJ SREC program?
It replaced it. The legacy SREC market closed to new registrations in 2020, ran through a transition (TREC) period, and the Successor Solar Incentive (SREC-II) is what new systems register under today. The big difference: the old SRECs floated with the market, while SREC-II pays a fixed, administratively set rate.
Is the 30% federal solar tax credit still available in New Jersey?
The residential credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Leased and PPA systems remain eligible for the federal Section 48E credit through 2027, with the savings built into your monthly rate. New Jersey’s SuSI payments, tax exemptions, and net metering are unaffected.
Do I need to do anything to claim the tax exemptions?
The sales tax exemption applies automatically. For the property tax exemption, your local assessor needs a certification for the system — Zenergy prepares that paperwork as part of every New Jersey installation.
